ExtremeVPN Configuration on ASUS RAPTURE GT-AX11000 Router
Installing ExtremeVPN on your router protects traffic traveling through any device connected to the internet via the network. ExtremeVPN provides a safe and encrypted internet connection that protects your devices from many threats.
ExtremeVPN can circumvent geo-location restrictions and gain access to sites such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, among others.
The Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 router is one of the top VPN router solutions. Most Asus routers include a built-in VPN client, making setting up a VPN network simple. Because of its built-in VPN compatibility, Asus routers are more VPN-compatible than routers from other manufacturers. However, due to variances in performance, not all VPNs are consistent with the Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 router.
A router is a private network that allows your home devices to communicate. A router also ensures that the gadgets on your home network interact with one another without the need for the public internet.
As a result, installing ExtremeVPN on your router is an excellent way to safeguard all home devices, including those that do not support VPN connections.
Considerations for Installing an ExtremeVPN on an Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 Router
- Stable Internet connection: Ensure a solid Internet connection before configuring your Asus router. It would help to have a good internet connection to configure your ExtremeVPN on the Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 Router.
- Access to your router’s administrative console: You should now be able to log in as an administrator to your Asus Rapture GT-AX11000 Router.
Consequently, it would help if you recall your username and password. However, you can use admin and admin as the default login and password unless you have previously modified them. - A Premium ExtremeVPN Plan: You require an existing VPN service membership, not a free plan. It is worth noting that Asus has changed its denotation of “VPN Client” to Asus “VPN Fusion” in some of its newer GT series. And only the following instructions will work with router models: Asus GT-AX11000, Asus GT-AC5300, Asus GT-AC2900, and Asus TUF-AX3000.
Step 1: Access Your Admin Console on the Asus GT-AX11000 Router
Open the Asus router’s Admin Console by typing your Default Gateway address into the browser’s URL address bar, or type router.asus.com or asusrouter.com into the WEB GUI. In most circumstances, it is 192.168.50.1 or 192.168.1.1 by default.

For users of Windows:
Launch the “Start” menu, type in, and select “Command Prompt.” A new window console will display; enter “ipconfig” and hit “Enter.” Your router’s IP address should be on the “Default Gateway” line.
For users of macOS:
Open the Apple applications dropdown and click on the “System Preferences” option.
Then, select “Network.”
From the menu, choose “Wi-Fi,” then select “Advanced,” then select “TCP/IP.”
You will see your router’s IP address shown next to “Router.”
A window requesting your username and password will appear after a successful launch. You can enter the default username and password admin.
Step 2: Visit the VPN Area
Select VPN in the left sidebar menu after logging into the Control Panel. Select “VPN,” then “VPN Fusion” (or “VPN client” if you are using older versions of Asus router models).
Step 3: Set up the (VPN Client) VPN Fusion Settings
You will give some VPN Fusion configuration information. This step is where you will enter your ExtremeVPN information. Press the “+” button next to Server List to add a new VPN tunnel. This will display a pop-up window containing PPTP/ L2TP/ OpenVPN configuration options. You will then select the “OpenVPN” tab.
Step 4: Obtain ExtremeVPN Configurations
Below, click the “OpenVPN” tab. It will prompt you for a description, username, password, and a request to import the .ovpn file, the configuration file for the ExtremeVPN server to which you will connect by default.
Log into the ExtremeVPN Admin Console and select your password and username. You can also get your .ovpn configuration file in the ExtremeVPN Admin console by choosing your location and downloading the UDP file.
Step 5: Import and Activate ExtremeVPN on Your Router
Choose the “Browse” option to upload the configuration file (.ovpn file). Now, upload the .ovpn configuration file for the previously selected location. A pop-up notification will show if the .ovpn configuration file upload is successful.
Do not check the “Import the CA file or edit the .ovpn file manually.” Click “OK,” and your new connection will appear on the list. You can connect the router to the ExtremeVPN server by clicking the “Activate” icon button.
Step 6: Verify that the VPN is On and Operational
A green tick and ” Connected ” status will appear when it is completely operational. After a successful connection, a blue mark should be displayed in the Connection Status column.
We can use Google to see if your VPN connection is successful: Simply Google “what is my IP” to find out. Then verify that it displays a new IP address different than your usual location.
