Run the test below on your Linux device to verify that Port Forwarding has been enabled and the appropriate port is being forwarded.
Ensure that your VPN is successfully connected, preferably using a PPTP or L2TP VPN connection, on the Linux device where you want to enable Port Forwarding.
Install the ncat packages by running the following command in the Terminal: sudo apt-get install ncat.
You will type the command ncat -l <remote port> in the Terminal after connecting to the VPN, setting up the necessary packages, and choosing the desired port.
Then hit Enter. If there is no output after pressing enter, the test is complete:
Complete the previous step, then go on to the next.
On a different device not linked to your network (like, your phone using mobile data), open a browser.
If the second device is not linked to a different network than the first, the test won’t work.
Open a browser on the second device.
Enter the URL: http://<VPN IP>:<Forwarded Port>
Enter to go on to the next steps.
If you get the following output in the Terminal on the VPN-enabled device, Port Forwarding is active:
