ExtremeVPN Configuration for the Cisco RV345 Dual WAN Gigabit VPN Router
Installing ExtremeVPN on your router is an excellent solution for guaranteeing the security of any devices connected to the network. This strategy is advantageous if you have gadgets that can connect to the internet but cannot install a VPN.
ExtremeVPN provides users with optimum protection against all types of dangerous online attacks, as well as the versatility of being able to be configured in a router. This post will demonstrate configuring an ExtremeVPN in a Cisco RV345 Dual WAN Gigabit VPN router.
The Cisco RV345 VPN Router was released in 2014 by Cisco following the RV320. The router includes Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client, dynamic web filtering, and IPSec, L2TP, PPTP, and SSL VPN capabilities.
It features two USB ports, two WAN ports, and sixteen LAN ports, eight for data and eight for protocol over ethernet (PoE). If you own a Cisco RV345 router and don’t know how to configure a VPN, this article is for you; sit back and relax as we lead you through the steps.
Consider the Following
Before we begin configuring your Cisco RV345 VPN Router, you should keep a few things in mind.
- Strong Internet connection: Before setting up your VPN, ensure you have a solid Internet connection because a weak Internet connection will impede your configuration.
- VPN-Enabled Router: Ensure that the version of the Cisco RV340 router you have is VPN compatible; the Cisco RV345 Dual WAN Gigabit VPN Router is the recommended router for this article.
- Premium ExtremeVPN account: Other VPN services are available, but you must exercise caution to avoid installing spyware masquerading as a VPN on your device. Many VPN services, particularly free ones, are unreliable, so we propose a premium (paid membership) account of ExtremeVPN for this setup.
After you have met the requirements, you can begin the setup process.
Step 1: Obtain your ExtremeVPN credentials; log into your ExtremeVPN account’s membership panel using your registered login details. Click on the subscription page from the dashboard, then scroll down to see your login and password, which you should write down.
Step 2: Configure your Cisco RV345 router using your browser to connect to Cisco’s default IP of http://192.168.0.1. If the default address does not work, please consult your router’s manual for the right gateway address.
Step 3: After logging into the control panel of your Cisco RV345 router, select the WAN tab from the list of options on the left. Select either WAN 1 or WAN 2 from the WAN options and click “edit.”
Step 4: In the WAN settings, select PPTP as the connection type and select any server from the list below. Enter your ExtremeVPN username and password in the VPN credentials field. Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for static DNS 1 and DNS 2, respectively, tick the “keep alive” box, and finally, MS-CHAPV2 as the authentication method.
Step 5: Check if your Cisco RV345 VPN Router is on and operating. After a successful connection, your router should be active and working, as evidenced by a quick Google search.
If the Google search returns an IP address and location that differs from your regular location, you must double-check and make any necessary modifications.
